Championnat canadien – Nail Art


The Nouvelles Esthétiques Canada team is pleased to invite you, for a 2nd year, to the Canadian Nail Art Championship in collaboration with CND Canada, which will take place during the LNE Canada Congress on May 3rd & 4th.

Starting March 29th, 2020, a jury will select the 10 finalists per category who will compete for the ultimate title on May 3rd & 4th at the LNE Canada Congress. The jury’s selection will be based on the portfolios received during the registration process.

THE 4 CATEGORIES

FANTASY

structure 3D

Get ready to get out of your comfort zone with the FANTASY category!

Finalists in this category will have to finalize a fantasy 3D creation within the allotted time period. No theme.

Free style with no creative restrictions. No theme. There is no limit to the number of 3D structures that participants will be able to put on their model’s nails. The use of costumes and props is permitted, but are the sole responsibility of the artist, however no points will be awarded during the judging. No external help (hairdresser, make-up artist, etc.) is allowed.

GENERAL RULES:

  • The total time allowed is 2h30
  • Participants will have to finalize and assemble their structures on site.
  • The creations must be unique and not have been designed beforehand for another competition or organization.
  • There are no restrictions on the format of the creation and the medium used. All decorations and accessories are permitted and encouraged. Get out of your comfort zone and wow the gallery! Creativity is required as well as a high level of difficulty.
  • Your model must have her nails ready before the competition begins. Applied prostheses, neutral varnish, nail shapes worked. No design will be allowed before starting.
  • The design(s)/pattern(s) based on the nail must be done on site before the assembly of your 3D creation.
  • Your 3D creation must be assembled on site only in order to allow you all the time necessary to create and fabricate your work for the most spectacular results.
  • The structures must be applied to the nails on site using glue/gel.
  • The choice of prostheses must match the structure of the nail and the hand.
  • You must have a short text (50 words maximum) to explain your work. It will be given to the judges during the judging.

 

EVALUATION CRITERIA

The nails of all models will be checked to ensure that the regulations are respected.

You will be judged on appearance, design, complexity, originality, level of detail and spectacular effect.

TO YOUR BRUSHES!

Mastery of art, meticulousness and attention to detail are the order of the day for the TO YOUR BRUSHES category. The finalists selected for this category will have to create, on a model’s hand and within the allotted time period, works of art in PAINT ONLY.

GENERAL RULES:

  • The total time allowed is 3 hours (three hours
  • Artists will only have to paint, with paint or gel on 2 hands/10 nails.
  • The shape of the nails must be worked and clean before the final. The shape of the nails is important and will be judged and must complement the design.
  • The nails can have a neutral base and already be ready to receive your work.
  • No design or tracing should be pre-made. The nails must be a white page_of solid color and neutral background. During the competition, you will be able to make your design on site before painting.
  • Cell phone and paper sketches are allowed
  • Artists must provide their own materials and no materials are required from participants.
  • No props, jewellery, metallic ribbon, etc. are allowed in this category.
  • Artists will only be required to paint, either with paint or gel.
  • No dimensions will be allowed. Nails must be smooth to the touch, without relief and without decoration.
  • You must have a short text (50 words maximum) to explain your work. It will be given to the judges during the judging.

SALON STYLE

Infiltrate the LNE Canada Congress universe!

The finalists selected for the SALON STYLE  category will have to create, on both hands – 10 nails, a model and within the allotted time period of 2h30, an inspiring, original work using different techniques that would be the envy of all your clients.

Show us as an artist how far you can push the limits of your art.

GENERAL RULES:

  • In order to diversify your art, no theme is assigned to this category.
  • The total time allotted is 2h30 to complete 10 nails on one model.
  • All work must be completed on site and will be supervised by the judges present.
  • The nails must be natural when the models arrive and must be ready to receive the creation. The nail plate can be prepared in advance.  No prosthesis or products will be allowed before the competition begins.
  • Participants must arrive 30 minutes before the start of the competition in order to settle in and ask any technical questions they may have about the products.
  • All work must be done on site. No pre-arrangements will be allowed. (No parts must be manufactured in advance).
  • The shape of the nails must be creative, trendy and originality is a MUST but must remain wearable. (The creation must correspond to what you could do in a salon for a client).
  • There is no restriction of length and shape, however the creation must remain wearable.
  • All techniques can be used.
  • The creation must be made in harmony with the hand of the model.
  • You will be judged on appearance, design, your shapes, complexity and originality, structure and hygiene.
  • All accessories are allowed, jewelry, stones, ribbons, gold leaf, and leaf with texture.

CND CHALLANEGE

A big challenge for all nail artists to use their artistic vision with the theme HIGH TEA PARTY using the state-of-the-art CND SHELLAC ™ products!

Candidates will have access to the current CND Shellac collection to create original flat Nail Art on 5 tips.

GENERAL RULES:

  • 3 hours total – to complete on 5 Tips (prosthetics)_ (no model required)
  • The theme is HIGH TEA PARTY
  • All work must be completed on site and will be supervised by the judges present.
  • Participants must arrive 30 minutes prior to the start of the competition in order to settle in and ask any technical questions they may have on the products.
  • Participants will be allowed to bring visual references and/or use their smartphone during the challenge.
  • To be completed on 5 tips (prostheses)_ (provided by the contest)
  • A countdown timer will announce the remaining 10 minutes of the CND Challenge as well as 5 minutes before the end of the challenge.

 

SUPPLY RULES:

Contestants are free to bring and are encouraged to use their own CND Shellac products, however CND will provide a variety of seasonal and base CND Shellac shades for the contestants.

No other brands of gel coatings other than CND Shellac will be permitted during the CND Challenge.

Resin and powder will not be allowed.

Any additional supplies from below listed may be used but may not occupy more than 50% of the total space allocated (5 tips)

  • Acrylic paint
  • Rhinestones
  • Glitter and/or pigments

 

Nail artists must bring their own tools, supplies and art materials, including the following:

  • Art brushes/ sponges / dotting tools etc.
  • Palettes / misc. art supplies
  • 99% Alcohol and/or any required solvents
  • Water if using paint and cups
  • UV lamp for curing (we recommend CND brand lamps)
  • Smartphone if competing in the CND social contest
  • Stands or for accessories for supporting your tips while working.

Finalists will be announced on April 1, 2020.

THEME : HIGH TEA PARTY

Finalist selections

From 29 March 2020 a jury will select the 10 finalists in each category. The portfolios sent at the time of registration will be carefully studied in order to make the selection.

On May 3 & 4, the selected participants will have the chance to compete on the floor of the LNE Canada Congress for the grand finale of the Canadian Nail Art Championship.

Final

For the final of the Championship, the participants will be asked to create a creation according to their respective category.

The finalists themselves will have to provide materials and models to complete their work.

It is the finalists’ responsibility to have the legal documents concerning the use of the model’s image signed for subsequent publication, both on the web and in Les Nouvelles Esthétiques Canada magazine. The organization will in no way be responsible for finding and/or managing the models of the selected participants. Participants must have their model at the competition.

Candidates selected to advance to the finals will have entry tickets* to the convention included and valid for the 2 days.

In the event that the participant does not make it to the final, they will still get tickets* for the congress valid for both days to cheer on the finalists.

The registration fee is in no way exchangeable or refundable.
